my nightly dreams are directed in my subconscious by an idiot
fiction
edward w pritchard
More in desperation than spite the various layers of characterization of being of myself representing my subconscious chose an idiot to advise, compose and direct my nightly dreams; the same nightly dreams that my daytime self consulted for direction on how to run my life in the reality of existence. For several years my nightly dreams are directed in my subconscious by an idiot. Meanwhile, upon waking I take thought on the significance of my dreams and in a flurry of activity write down snippets of those wispy memories of misinterpreted factoids that the idiot director of my dreams has chosen Salvidor Dali like to represent the mirrored reality of my life.
Changes need to be made. Oh for one night of dreamless sleep.

ten thousand nights without decent brakes
ten thousand nights without decent brakes
fiction
edward w pritchard
Ten thousand nights driving a truck without decent brakes,
come sit next to me in the truck,
I always drive in my dreams,
careening around corners and down steep hills,
past all the places I use to be,
speeding very fast through narrow streets and passage ways,
somehow each night the brakes miraculously manage to work,
no pedestrians get hit and we stop just in time,
still it's nerve wracking, out of control with badly worn brakes, driving a plunging truck downhill,
that's the point I guess,
one day, when I am awake I will take control,
I will go find that truck of my dreams and fix those brakes,
manage my breaks thereafter,
for now though, please sit close to me in my dreams,
it's so much better when you are near.

dreams
dreams
fiction
edward w pritchard
Why does the hidden detective of our subconscious wait forty years to say his piece in our dreams. Couldn't he have spoken to us when the information was relevant.
We dream about someone we have not seen or thought of in forty years. Then we glimpse a significant part of that person's character that we were never consciously aware of delivered in the middle of the nightly melodrama our dreams have become.
Afterward we spend the rest of the day trying to figure out what is the significance of that revealed information to us here and now.
