Windfall 2
fiction

His Brother had given him an old wool navy blue military coat that the brother had brought specially for him when they met at their uncles funeral.
Later his hands had found the hole in the pocket which his hands were stuffed into trying to keep warm and escape the cold. His fingers had found and pulled two long lost twenty dollar bills out of the lining of the coat, two twenty dollar bills that some-one had long ago forgot in their prosperity.
As the man walked he reflected on his life's long decline, and then in a planning mood, went and bought a pair of wool gloves and a hat, and then enjoyed a hot meal of eggs, potatoes, bacon and coffee before he returned to the cold. Feeling a sudden security, he pushed his hands deep into the lining of the coat to reassure himself that the change and the last intact twenty dollar bill were still safely there inside the hole.
