The Birth of Human Consciousness

The Birth of Human Consciousness

fiction
edward w pritchard

No one knows exactly when human consciousness first occurred. However, there had to be a moment when the first person ceased to be unaware and became conscious.

More than likely it would be when someone hit his thumb with a stone or an axe and felt an intense pain. Later when the pain had subsided somewhat, the person would sit and ruminate on pain and why it went away eventually. At that time also that person would begin to anticipate and fear the next injury. That would be the birth of human consciousness.
