Syria your ancient layered history again endures new conquerors; endure Syria, yesterday's invincible conquerors Assyrian, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Ottoman have all passed away. Throughout millenia armies come and go yet Mother City Damascus endures.

Endure sorrowful Syria. Time will again heal your wounds and extinguish today's anguish and tomorrow's lamentations.

Damascus, arise sleepy Mother Damascus, a new dawn has come again. Arise Damascus, assimilate new conquerors, bake bread, stretch cheese, send sons to morning prayer.

Compassion new order, know your place; time soon summons your heritor.
