morning becomes Electra

Morning becomes Electra

fiction
edward w pritchard

This is about Greek playwright Sophocles who wrote the play  "Electra" and about American playwright Eugene O'Neil who wrote "Mourning becomes Electra". You should read both.

However I was unable to finish O'Neil's Electra but I have read and enjoyed Sophocles effort.

O'Neil's version was made into a movie starring Rosalind Russell in the Electra style role. Although her performance was a masterpiece Russell didn't win the Oscar. Not her fault, O'Neil's play as usual was too long.Three hours in original and the movie lost money.

No one in America this morning is probably thinking about Sophocles, O'Neil and Rosalind Russell
as Electra but many people are probably thinking about their Mother.
